Many of our patients want to know the cost of hearing aids. However, this question isn’t always easy to answer, as there are many hearing aid brands, styles, and technology levels available.
Generally, hearing aid costs start at approximately $3,500 per pair (out-of-pocket expense after eligibility and approval for the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) provincial grant).
Insurance or other government funding may cover all or part of this cost. Individual plans can vary, and our helpful Patient Coordinators will assist you whenever possible and help direct you to the answers you’re looking for.
What Factors Affect Hearing Aid Costs?
Hearing aid costs can vary widely depending on several individual factors, including:
- Hearing loss requirements
- Technology level
- Lifestyle needs
- Physical fit and dexterity
- Need for assistive listening technology
- Comfort level with adjustments and technology
- Where you have used your ADP funding in the past five years
- Whether you have insurance or other coverage
Our Audiologists will discuss treatment options with you based on these factors while taking your budget into consideration.
Financing Options
Medicard financing is also available, with monthly payments as low as $50–$107, depending on the cost of your hearing aids.
Financing is subject to approval. Terms vary and are based on current interest rates, credit rating, income, and purchase cost.
Hearing Aid Adoption Plan
$400 Per Hearing Aid (Per Side)
Some patients come to us with hearing aids they already own. There are many reasons for this. Perhaps they’ve recently moved to the area, were not receiving the follow-up care and maintenance they had hoped for, or received hearing aids donated by a family member or friend.
That’s why we’ve created our Hearing Aid Adoption Plan – designed for patients who want ongoing professional audiological care and maintenance, even if they didn’t originally purchase their hearing aids from us.
Our Audiologists will assess your hearing and determine whether your existing devices are suitable for your needs. If appropriate, we can program them to your hearing requirements. We’ll also review the age, technology, and warranty status of the devices to help determine whether they’re a good fit.
Can Donated Hearing Aids Be Reprogrammed?
In the case of donated hearing aids, there are some important considerations.
Custom, one-piece, in-the-ear hearing aids originally fitted to another individual cannot be reprogrammed for another patient due to Health Canada regulations.
However, behind-the-ear (BTE) and receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids may be suitable for reuse. These devices can be professionally sanitized using UV sterilization, and new, sterile receiver wires and ear couplings can be fitted to customize the devices for you.
If any manufacturer’s warranty remains on the hearing aids, we can arrange to have it transferred to your name.
What’s Included in the Adoption Plan?
Our Hearing Aid Adoption Plan includes:
- Comprehensive Hearing Assessment: A full evaluation of your hearing needs.
- Device Assessment: Evaluation of your existing hearing aids to determine whether they’re appropriate for your hearing loss and individual needs.
- Customized Fitting: Removal of previous hearing aid couplings and replacement with components suitable for your ears and hearing requirements.
- Programming and Verification: Prescription, programming, and verification of your hearing aids to ensure appropriate amplification.
- Ongoing Audiological Care: Hearing tests, cleanings, programming adjustments, and necessary parts and tools at no additional charge.
- In-Office Repairs: In-office hearing aid repairs are included. If a device must be sent to the manufacturer for repair outside its warranty period, additional charges may apply.
Is the Adoption Plan Right for You?
Your Audiologist or Patient Coordinator will review all details with you before fitting your hearing aids.
We’ll help you determine whether the cost of adopting your existing devices is worthwhile based on:
- The age and technology of the hearing aids
- Their condition and remaining warranty
- Your hearing levels and individual needs
- The expected benefits of using the devices
Our goal is to help you make an informed decision about your hearing care.
